(Mar '20) MPE Ready for Rapid Response and Support
MPE stands ready as a medical device manufacturer to help out any way to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. MPE has already been added to customer vendor lists presented to local government officials.
MPE's message:
- As our nation and the global community manages through COVID-19 pandemic yesterday President Trump signed into order the Defense Production Act (DPA).
- Medical experts have cited the possibility that hospitals and medical providers will be overwhelmed by coronavirus patients in the coming weeks. We know the need for emergency medical devices and equipment such as ventilators, patient monitors and medical carts are immediate.
- MPE is reaching out to local, state and federal levels to inform them that we are ready and willing to help
Operations statement:
- MPE is an FDA registered factory focused on the manufacturing and assembly of medical devices and equipment. We have capacity available to help meet the needs.
- Manufacture off-shelf preconfigured medical carts for medical equipment and devices.
- Manufacture of sub-assembly or finished assembly of medical equipment in multiple medical cart options. We could supply over the short and medium term to mobilize the ventilator needs.
DPA Mechanics:
- DPA would allow the U.S. government “to incentivize a company who already makes [emergency medical supplies] to make more of them
- DPA would allow the federal government to offer loans and loan guarantees to companies that currently manufacture emergency medical supplies, enabling them to dramatically increase their production of those items.
Ventilator needs and projections:
- The U.S. currently has an estimated 160,000 ventilators, far short of the 740,000 it would need in a "severe" pandemic like the Spanish flu of 1918, according to a study by the Center for Health Security at Johns Hopkins.
MPE can quickly ramp up production and help support supply chain needs.
